Girls Hoops: El Camino 74, Rio Americano 17

SACRAMENTO, CA - The El Camino Eagles defeated the Rio Americano Raiders 74-17 to stretch their winning streak to 11-games and remain undefeated in league play.

The Eagles (21-1, 5-0) visit Antelope on Wednesday. The Raiders (14-9, 3-2) hope to snap a two game losing streak at Cordova.

Police Academy League announces girls' roller derby program

The Citrus Heights Police Activities League (PAL) is proud to announce that its girls Roller Derby program will launch on Sunday Feb. 13 and continue for 8 weeks, ending on April 3. Camp will be held every Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Foothill Skate Inn, located at 4700 Auburn Blvd cross of Madison Blvd.

Girls 12 to 17 years old and at all skill levels are welcome to join the PAL Roller Derby program.

Citrus Heights police looking for gunman

CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA - Police are looking for a man after a Citrus Heights resident was shot during an attempted robbery.

It happened Thursday morning at a bus stop near the corner of Auburn Boulevard and Devecchi Avenue.  Lt. Ray Bechler said the male victim was standing at the bus stop when a man walked up with a gun, demanded the person's belongings, then fired a gun shot in the air.

When the victim hesitated, Bechler said the man fired a second shot, hitting the victim in the hip.

Bechler said the victim's wounds are non-life threatening.

Witnesses described the gunman as 5 feet 8 inches tall, wearing a dark beanie style hat, a dark "puffy" jacket and dark jeans.

Citrus Heights police are asking anyone with any information to call (916)-727-5500.

Citrus Heights police search for shooting suspect

CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA - Citrus Heights police look for a shooting suspect after a man was shot Wednesday around 5 p.m. on the 7800 block of Auburn Boulevard.

A 19-year-old man was shot in the leg after he got into an argument with another man, said Citrus Heights Lt. Gary Hendricks.

When police arrived at the scene, the victim's friends were putting him in the car so they could take him to the hospital.

Police searched the area for any signs of a suspect, but found nothing.

See how a small dinner can come alive in a historic airplane and make your meetings more interesting and your receptions memorable. 

The Museum is opened on Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5;00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m..  It has on display a wide range of aircraft types, both military and civilian. These include fighters, trainers, transports and bi-planes.

Facebook's Find Friends feature is a little disconcerting.  Whatever algorithm or calculation it is that takes the information I've input as well as those who I've deemed as "friends" just blows my mind and creeps me out.  Of course, 90% of the time, the suggestions are bizarre.  Just because my sister and her friends know someone doesn't mean that I know them. Orange Grove Adult School gets reprieve

SACRAMENTO, CA -  A Sacramento school for disabled students over the age of 18 will continue to operate for another year, according to a school district spokesman.

Trent Allen with the San Juan Unified School District says the district has reached a tentative agreement with Alta Regional Center to keep Orange Grove Adult School open until June 30, 2012. Alta Regional Center will provide $1.1 million to make that happen, Allen says.

School district staff had recommended closing the Orange Avenue facility in June 2011 due to expected state budget cuts.

Antelope man dies after car goes through intersection, ends up in backyard

ANTELOPE, CA - An Antelope man died after two cars crashed and one ended up in the backyard of a home Saturday around 1 a.m.

California Highway Patrol said a 2000 Chevy Blazer going west bound on North Loop Boulevard and a 2003 Toyota Corolla going northbound on Walegra Road crashed going through the intersection.

CHP said it is unclear which car ran the red light.

The Blazer rolled over several times then went through a retaining wall and ended up in a backyard.

Both passengers in the Blazer were ejected from the car.

The driver of the Blazer, a 19-year-old from Antelope, was killed in the crash. The passenger, a 20-year-old man from Citrus Heights, was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries. CHP said the two were horsing around before the crash and probably coming from the party. CHP also said the driver was probably driving under the influence.

The driver of the Corolla was transported to a hospital with moderate injuries.

Citrus Heights police search for at-risk missing woman

CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA - Citrus Heights Police Department search for an at-risk missing woman who left her home Friday around 2 p.m.

Kimberley Bernard, 52, is a white woman with brown hair and hazel eyes, about 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 250 pounds.

Bernard is emotionally distraught and in possession of prescription drugs.

Bernard is driving a 1995 green Nissan pick-up with California license plates 5C63403.

Anyone with information on Bernard's whereabouts is asked to call Citrus Heights Police at 916-727-5500.
