Today marks the 80th birthday of one of Canada's favorite sons, singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot.
Described by fellow Canadian Robbie Robertson of The Band as "a national treasure," Lightfoot was born in Orillia, Ontario and from an early age was performing music. Lightfoot continues to tour and frequently plays in Reno.

With a fresh new name, 2018 marks 27th year for BENT Sacramento LGBTQ Film Fest

Celebrating its 27th anniversary, BENT-Sacramento International LGBTQ Film Festival is a spectacular community and cultural event consisting of three days of LGBTQ film, local food, beer, wine and live entertainment. BENT Film Fest takes place Friday through Sunday, October 12-14, 2018, at the Crest Theatre (1013 K Street) in downtown Sacramento.  BENT Film Fest takes place in October each year coinciding with the national LGBTQ History Month, an observance of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender history, and the history of gay rights.

Auto Museum debuts all-new exhibit:  Hitting the Road: Road Trippin’ Through the Years

The California Automobile Museum is proud to present a new exhibit titled Hitting the Road: Road Trippin’ Through the Years” that debuts on Friday, September 28, 2018. The fun and exciting exhibit allows guests an opportunity to explore the historic American pastime of traveling with family and friends. Depending on age, race, and financial status, experiences and memories of road trips differ dramatically. The goal of this exhibit is to explore these differences along with how the automobile and road trips changed American culture, and also helped to shape entire industries.

Railroad Museum selected as venue for “Conversations West 2018” regional conference

In partnership with California State Parks and the California State Railroad Museum & Foundation, the Center for Railroad Photography & Art will hold their first-ever western regional conference -- Conversations West 2018 -- at the Railroad Museum on September 21-22, 2018. The conference will offer a full day of presentations about railroad photography and art focusing specifically on the American West. The conference will also serve as a kick-off event for the Center’s new exhibition titled Beebe & Clegg: Their Enduring Photographic Legacy, as well as for festivities surrounding the upcoming 150th anniversary of the completion of the nation’s first transcontinental railroad.

Five local museums to offer free admission to Smithsonian Magazine Museum Day ticket holders on 9/22

Five Sacramento area museums are joining the Smithsonian Magazine Museum Day nationwide effort by offering free admission to advance registrants all day on Saturday, September 22, 2018. The five participating local museums include the following: Aerospace Museum of California, California Automobile Museum, California Museum, California State Railroad Museum and Maidu Museum & Historic Site.  The mission of the annual effort is to provide an opportunity for consumers throughout the United States to enjoy and share in our dynamic heritage and cultural institutions for free.
