Mother Hips’ own Tim Bluhm will join guitarist Scott Law for a special Grass Valley performance presented by The Center for the Arts on March 10.

Best-known as the lead singer of California band the Mother Hips and keyboardist/ guitarist for his wife, Nicki Bluhm and the Gramblers, Tim Bluhm has toured professionally for 25 years and written and recorded hundreds of songs.

Occasionally, Bluhm demonstrates his passion for songwriting and steps away from band touring and record production for solo performances. Often personal, his music is subtle and economical, without “show,” and full of emotion, allegory and dry humor. On solo performances, Bluhm tells stories about the inception of songs or gives anecdotes from the era in which the songs were written.

Guitarist Scott Law has performed with an array of bluegrass, American roots, rock and jam band luminaries including Phil Lesh & Friends, longtime musical accomplices The String Cheese Incident, Darol Anger, Tim & Nicki Bluhm, Tony Furtado, The Mother Hips, Crooked Still, Peter Rowan, The Travelin’ McCourys, Leftover Salmon, Danny Barnes, Railroad Earth, Jerry Joseph, Melvin Seals, Brokedown in Bakersfield and more.

In 2006, Bluhm, Bay Area musician Jackie Greene, and engineer Dave Simon-Baker opened Mission Bells Studio where Bluhm has produced albums for the Mother Hips, Jackie Greene, Hot Buttered Rum, Dave Brogan, Little Wings, and hosted Phil Lesh, Los Lobos, Rogue Wave, Jonathan Richman, Josh Ritter, and ALO.
