Sacramento Museums Get in the Holiday Spirit in December!

In addition to its fascinating Gold Rush past, the Sacramento area is rich with an amazing array of state-of-the-art museums and historic sites that offer visitors the chance to explore California’s fine art, history, science, and wildlife treasures all year long.  In December, many of the 30 members of Sacramento Association of Museums (SAM) are celebrating the holidays with special events and activities, including:

Holiday Music Program at the California State Capitol Museum - Through December 23
Get ready for some holiday fun on your next visit to the California State Capitol Museum in December!   To set a festive stage and spread holiday cheer, beautiful vintage decorations create a lovely backdrop for a variety of diverse, amazing and free live holiday musical performances in the Capitol Rotunda each day.

Enjoy Tchaikovsky’s famous ballet, "The Nutcracker" this holiday season. Capitol Ballet Company and Stockton Ballet School will be presenting this classic this December.

Performances will be in both Stockton and Sacramento.

The Stockton show will be on Saturday, Dec. 8 at 2 p.m. at San Joaquin Delta College, 5151 Pacific Avenue in Stockton. Ticket Box Office number is 209-954-5110.

The Sacramento show will be on Saturday, Dec. 15 at 2 p.m. at Sheldon High School, 8333 Kingsbridge Drive, Sacramento, CA 95829. Ticket Box Office number is 916-484-1188.

Bring the entire family to this holiday concert entitled "Pops Potpourri!" at the La Sierra Community Center in Carmichael. The Sacramento Symphonic Winds, conducted by Dr. Les Lehr, features saxophone/vocal soloist Roger Gosline performing Can You Feel the Love Tonight, by Elton John; The Christmas Song, by Mel Torme and Bob Wells; What a Wonderful World, by Weiss/Thiele.  Other selections will include A Christmas Festival; Symphony No. 1 “The Lord of the Rings,” I. Gandalf; Pirates of the Caribbean; The Lion King and more!

Historic Rusch Home and Gardens - Open House

You are cordially invited to a rare opportunity to step back in time and experience the Historic Rusch Home and Gardens. An open house is being held on Monday, November 5 at the Historic Rusch Home located at 7301 Antelope Road in Citrus Heights.

The Open House will be from 5:30pm-7:00pm and will include light refreshments. Imediately following the Open House will be the History and Arts Commision Meeting begining at 7:00pm.

Parking is available in the rear of the home.

Bring the entire family to this exhilarating concert entitled "Around the World in 90 Minutes!" at the La Sierra Community Center in Carmichael. The Sacramento Symphonic Winds, conducted by Dr. Les Lehr, features instrumental soloist Keith Bohm, saxophone, playing Pequeña Czarda, by Pedro Iturralde.  

Other selections will include Variations on a Korean Folk Song by John Barnes Chance; Wyoming by Thurman Douglass, a world premiere performance; Molly on the Shore by Percy Grainger and more!

12 Bands, 2 Stages at Midtown Event, Sunday Oct. 7

A dozen of the top Northern California bands, playing an Exciting, Eclectic, mix of musical genres (Rock, Country, Jazz, Funk, Soul, Big Band, World Beat … of course, Blues,  and….wait for it….Yep…Gypsy Swing! ... will gather at the Torch Club, 904 15th Street, on Sunday, October 7th, from 1pm to 8pm for the 6th Annual Blues for Life. (Inside and out in the parking lot…two stages!)

This popular fundraiser, that has grown every year, benefits Albie Aware Breast Cancer Foundation, which raises money for expensive diagnostic breast cancer tests such as PET scans and mammograms for women in need.

Besides performances by the area’s leading bands, the popular Pasta Cook-Off, featuring 12 top Sacramento restaurants will be featured.
