It’s All Aboard for Story Time! with Mrs.Claus as a celebrity guest reader on Monday, December 4, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the California State Railroad Museum. To the delight of young children and train enthusiasts alike, Mrs. Claus will read the children’s books The Night Before Christmas and Thomas and the Christmas Tree (both are Thomas and Friends books).

The California Automobile Museum is excited to present two spirited Halloween events – “Trunk or Treat” on October 29, 2017, for families and children of all ages and “Haunted Headlights Tour” on October 31, 2017 for ages 13 and over. The always-popular “Trunk or Treat” is a returning event while the “Haunted Headlights Tour” is an all-new offering this year.

Friends of Sutter’s Fort, in partnership with California State Parks and B Street Theatre Company, are proud to present “The Haunted Fort” for two-evenings only on October 27 & 28, 2017, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. each night. With an enhanced and family-friendly format, guests will have the special opportunity to explore the dimly-lit Fort at night at their own pace, interact with knowledgeable docents in period attire (who will share scary, spooky and sometimes disturbing details of pioneer life in the 1800s), participate in fun and interactive stations set-up throughout the Fort, and also be entertained by a number of talented performers from B Street Theatre Company.

Delightful not frightful…“Spookomotive” trains to treat Old Sacramento visitors in October

Back by popular demand, California State Parks and the California State Railroad Museum & Foundation will once again offer engaging and entertaining “Spookomotive” train rides for three weekends beginning in mid-October. With VIP First Class train rides also available, “Spookomotive” trains operate hourly from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays beginning the weekend of October 14-15 and continuing on October 21-22 and October 28-29, 2017. Each operating weekend the “Spookomotive” will have a special theme, and the experience includes exciting on board entertainment and a tasty Halloween treat. Train ride guests are encouraged to get in the spirit and dress up according to the fun weekly themes that include: Superheroes & Villains (October 14-15), Pirates & Princesses (October 21-22) and Witches & Wizards (October 28-29).

Sutter’s Fort to present “Hands on History:  Wagon’s West”

Continuing a popular series of fun and interactive “Hands on History” activities offered each month, Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park (SHP) and Friends of Sutter’s Fort will present a special “Hands on History: Wagons West” event on Saturday, September 16, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fort visitors will be delighted to see the recently completed restoration of the historic walls, gates and blacksmith shop – along with new restoration efforts underway – plus have the opportunity to step back in time to when Sutter’s Fort was considered as the ultimate destination for thousands of overland emigrants lured by the idea of inexpensive land, rich soil, beautiful weather and boundless opportunity, followed by tens of thousands of fortune seekers in 1849 and 1850 during the Gold Rush.
