Summer Camps build skills and increase health

Summer Camps build skills and increase health

Summer camp season is upon us and Cordova Recreation & Park District reminds parents that camp programs offer a safe and healthy way for children and teens to spend their time.  Camps offer kids and teens a safe place to play and be active, and reduces at-risk behavior such as drug use and gang involvement.   Studies show that parks and recreation also decrease the risk of childhood obesity - communities without parks, particularly in economically disadvantaged areas, have unhealthier children.  Fewer parks and playgrounds often lead to sedentary children and stressful lives.  Evidence also strongly suggests that participation in outdoor recreation, particularly as a child, leads people to have more satisfying and fulfilling lives.

River Safety Awareness event planned for May 26

River Safety Awareness event planned for May 26

SACRAMENTO - With Memorial Day weekend around the corner, County Regional Parks and the Sacramento Metro Fire Department will host a river safety event to remind people to take a few precautions to stay safe around area rivers, and that the law mandates that all children under the age of 13 must wear a life jacket in or around waterways.

The event will take place on Thursday, May 26 beginning at 10 a.m. at the Sunrise Recreation Area at American River Parkway in Citrus Heights. Sac Metro Fire Department will demonstrate a live water rescue at 10:30 a.m.

The American River Parkway Foundation and GenCorp Foundation will also show their commitment to water safety by partnering to purchase and maintain the "Kids Don’t Float" free life jacket loaner program for children at several spots along the American River Parkway.

Today Tyler and I made a deal to start a list of all the things we want to do this summer! Sacramento Sidetracks will be a huge help in processing a plan. They list everything from beginner skate classes, to spray grounds, and so much more! http://sacramentosidetracks.com I adore their website (and have for a while), in gaining new ideas, and keeping it so that we can do more for less!
