ID=24638641Friends and family of a man shot and killed Friday in Citrus Heights want to know what led to the shooting that police said started out as a fight.

Shaun Blechinger was shot and killed Friday morning around 10:30 a.m. in the 6500 block of Greenback Lane. Investigators said Blechinger, and the suspect knew each other and had gotten into a fight in the moments leading up to the shooting.

One of Blechinger's friends, Amanda Johnson, said he had tried to get in touch with her less than an hour before he died.

"He called me around 10 a.m. that morning, and I rolled over, ignored the phone call and went back to sleep." Recalled Johnson.

It's a phone call that she said she wishes now that she had answered. Blechinger was calling her, for something, but what that was she will never know. Less than one hour after that missed phone call, her friend was dead.

"He was a good person, he did not deserve to go the way that he went and I wish it never happened," Johnson said. " I wish I would have answered that phone call, because if I did, maybe things would be different."

Luther Frazier, 34, was arrested and charged with the murder, but police have not detailed his relationship with Blechinger.

"I just don't understand, you know what I mean, probably never will." Said close friend Ada Torrence.

She had known Blechinger for the past five years, and said he always had a smile on his face. She said he leaves behind a child, and wants to know what was behind the shooting that took her friend.

"I want to know why," she said . " What could he have possibly done to make someone that mad that they would want to take his life?"

"The violence needs to stop. It needs to end today," added Johnson.

A vigil in memory of Blechinger was set for Monday night at 7 p.m. in front of Johnson's house.
